Cheaper Bodum french press uses a plastic connector between the plunger and the strainer (round part). Can’t speak for the longevity of the plastic part in question since mine is pretty new, and I have only taken it apart once when I was cleaning it. This one from Best Buy looks like it has metal for that part, but if you ever break the glass, it doesn’t look like you can save it at all. Good price for it, all things considered.
